Can you feel it? Summertime is just around the corner, and here at The Creative Kitchen, we’re craving some ice-cold lemonade. What is more iconic than a cool lemonade on a hot summer day? Take your beverage choice to the next level and make an impact on ending child slavery while you sip! This is precisely the goal of Make a Stand Lemon-aid, the first lemonade-stand lemonade to be bottled and certainly, the first with such a cause behind it! Vivienne Harr, the now 10 year old founder and entrepreneur, started her stand with the vision to help the over 18 million child slaves around the world after learning that slavery had not ended with Abraham Lincoln. So far, she has raised well over $100,000 for “Not For Sale,” a leading anti-slavery organization, turned the stand into a registered B-Corps operation, and opened the “Make a Stand Fund” at the Marin Community Foundation. As Vivienne says, “You don’t have to be big or powerful to change the world;” every little action, even as simple as having a lemonade, can have the potential to affect change.
From the Mouth of a Kid:
Vivienne makes very yummy lemonade. It’s so cool that she helps other little kids! I like being able to help other kids like me who are in trouble and not safe, just like she’s doing.
From the Eyes of a Parent:
It is invaluable the work and example this little girl is setting for kids and adults alike. It’s a wonderful conversation starter for not only the reality that is child slavery, but also for social responsibility, contributing to a good cause, and is solid proof that when your heart and intentions are in the right place, nothing can stop you – what a wonderful role model!
And as a plus, this lemonade contains Fair Trade ingredients and comes in at 1/3 less sugar than other lemonades out there, so it is a more healthful option too.
